Ridiculing achievers be it Sarthak Agarwal or Gaurav Agarwal won’t bring any good to you, so please stop!

I miss the time when we used to admire the achievements and achievers. I do not understand what is wrong with the new ALL-TIME-ONLINE junta out there.

First I saw people ridiculing Sarthak Agarwal,  the Class 12 CBSE topper who got 99.6% marks. First thing first, Congratulations dude!! We are proud of you!! Now he did something which most of the people will not achieve even if they are given a  1000 chances or even if we let them write their exam even with an open book.

So instead of understanding that and asking kids to admire him and find a role model or atleast congratulate him, what we do ….. we ridicule him. Well that is something great ain’t it?  C’mon folks he is what 17 or 18 or 19(max) and you are making trolls about him, did you for once thought how is it going to affect him. Probably not coz had you thought of it you would not dare do that.

Now today I saw a useless post on my facebook page which take about Gaurav Agarwal, who holds Bachelor of Technology (Computer Science) degree from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Management from Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Lucknow and now has topped  the prestigious examination of IAS.

Now lemme tell you an amazing fact: For the first time in four years, a male candidate topped the prestigious examination who by the way is Gaurav. So he deserves some applause and not some sick and third class jokes.

I understand that they are overachievers and everyone[parents, aunties, teachers and god-knows-who] around you compare with them every now and then to make you feel bad about you but giving low standard comments and making abusive memes are not going to help anyways. Internet can be used for other things, don’t be another angry kid sitting in his dorm and abusing whosoever the kid doesn’t like. Be a sport not hypocrite!!

Something is wrong with the way kids are taught the reality of life

The time we live in is very dynamic and it is changing at a speed which is really tough to cope up with. Every one has been telling me this since a long time. And since I knew this for quite a long time it has occurred to me that there is something wrong with they way kids are taught the reality of life.

In the name of “good manners” we teach them to accept authority. I mean they are taught to respect elders, while RESPECT SHOULD BE EARNED and should not be given for free, never doubt the bible/gita/quran and the most annoying one “Never answer back to the elders. The kid becomes a total submissive by by the time he reaches college and then the suffering begins.

In another part of society which is a li’l liberal, they tend to care so much for their kids that they pamper them so much that the kid remains the kid even when he is 28. See being kiddish is deifferent and behaving like a kid is another thing and very annoying. It is not your mama’s house that your tantrums will be tolerated SOB. I do not understand why they can’t hit their kids and make them somewhat more manly.

It is not only parents who are responsible for an altogether stupid generation, Schools are equally responsible. In order to keep every kid’s morale so high they have started saying “Every Kid is a Winner”. Can’t you see the problem here. The kid won’t learn the harsh reality of life till he reaches in an office and one day his boss tells him that he is a LOSER. you have to prepare kids to take that remark and keep moving forward. They do not lose until they are in a sports team but then also in the inhouse games everyone again is winner.  This is the stupidest act done with the kids.

And this all is giving birth to a ruthlessly stupid generation, dumb and unappealing.

What really motivates people – truth

Here is a small RSA Talk by Dan Pink which is animated by RSA Animate. It talks about the truth behind motivating people in any organization.

According to wikipedia, Dan Pink has written five books that focus on the “changing workplace,” and that have appeared on The New York Times Best Seller list:

  1. To Sell is Human: The Surprising Truth About Moving Others
  2. Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us
  3. The Adventures of Johnny Bunko: The Last Career Guide You’ll Ever Need
  4. A Whole New Mind: Why Right Brainers Will Rule the Future
  5. Free Agent Nation: The Future of Working for Yourself

It is a must see for managements as well to understand the staff and what they want and need to flourish. And it might also enlighten people on why the hell banks and often governments rewards are generally failure?

The Happyness Theory

You sleep alone tonight
No hand to hold
Neither on your left nor on your right
Missing the togetherness
The snoring or even a sight

It’s just not you there
Whole world out is alone
Some for a night some for years
Feeling the agony same as yours
Sharing with you millions of tears

So don’t feel sad or sorry
Believe that you are special
That there is no reason to worry
Feel surrounded by billion such souls
And that my friend is The Happyness Theory

Sharpen your Axe

I read this story somewhere on internet today. It says,

Once there was a guy, he wanted to work as a woodcutter. He went up to the owner and asked for the job. He got the job, the money was good and he liked the job, so he accepted the offer. He was very excited about it on the first day so he cut down 20 trees in a day. It gave him quite a lot of motivation, so next day he was determined to do even better. But even after his hard work he could manage only 15. So next day he tried even harder but next day was even worse, 12.  And the numbers fell each day for next 3 days.

So frustrated and sad both our guy went to his boss and told that he tries harder every day but the number of trees cut keep falling. What could be possibly wrong? The Boss asked “when was the last time you sharpened your axe?”

“Sharpen? I had no time to sharpen my axe. I have been very busy trying to cut trees…”

So what do we learn from it? Well in our lives too we are very busy racing for numbers, be it better money or better job, how much can we achieve where can we reach in next 5 years. But in all this we forget what’s even more important “To Learn”. When was the last time you really “sharpened your Axe”. You tried to add a new skill learn a new thing or traveled to a new place or appreciated the art/beauty around. Can’t remember, right?

Well that is how we are. We keep on focusing on things which are meant to be part of life and forget the life itself. We are too busy losing time. Never forget that you are more important than your job. Don’t lose the important things for some numbers be it a high salary raise or a soul sucking high paying job. Focus on key things learn, live and love. Life will again become beautiful.
